Also in Corpus: the approximately four-week / 30-day option

Texas EMS Academy also offers 30 days: weekdays 6–10:30 p.m.; weekend clinicals 8 a.m.–8 p.m. Same published $2,850 EMT tuition. No dated session is listed. Example only: Jan. 4–Feb. 2 training, then certification around Feb. 16–Mar. 16 (estimated; cohort not announced). [1]

From January start to certification

The solid bars are published training dates. Stripes mark an assumed class; dashed blocks reserve time for clinicals or testing and state processing.

2-week planning example

Jan. 4–17: training (estimated; January cohort not announced).

Jan. 31–Feb. 28: potential certification window (estimated).

4-week planning example

Jan. 4–31: posted classes. Allow through Mar. 2 for externship in this conservative scenario.

Mar. 16–Apr. 13: potential certification window (estimated). Earlier clinical completion can move it forward.

10-week planning example

Jan. 25–Apr. 4: cohort through skills. Assumes clinicals also finish by Apr. 4.

Apr. 18–May 16: potential certification window (estimated).

Planning assumption: add 2–6 weeks after all school requirements finish. This is an allowance, not an official turnaround promise. DSHS currently states up to four weeks for application processing. Testing availability, retakes, clinical placements or background review can extend the timeline. Hiring takes additional time. [4]

The unannounced Corpus date is an illustrative Monday start, not a claimed historical January schedule. All dates are 2027 unless specified. Chart positions are approximate; written dates control.

Budget the full path

Published prices checked in October 2026 are the planning baseline for January. These totals exclude variable expenses.

Add state fingerprinting, any health clearances, clothing, supplies, travel, meals and lodging you need. A school background check does not replace DSHS fingerprinting. San Antonio’s fee page still lists an older $70 exam fee; this comparison uses NREMT’s current $104.

What happens next

Enroll and clear requirements

Confirm the cohort, seats, full price and deadline. Prepare diploma/GED and photo ID; obtain the school’s exact health, screening and clinical checklist. Arrange time away from work and care for Argos during required attendance.

Finish every training component

Complete coursework, skills, clinicals and required Texas EMS law training. Obtain school verification for the National Registry application. [6] [7]

Test, then receive Texas certification

Pass NREMT, submit the state application and complete the required fingerprint review. Wait for Texas certification before practicing. Diploma eligibility does not establish individual background eligibility. [4]

Questions to settle before paying

Seats, cutoffs and clinicals

Corpus: request January dates and the exact daily clinical timetable. San Antonio: reconcile the $50 price difference, confirm the delivery format and externship site, and check the holiday registration deadline. San Marcos: request installment dates and whether clinical placement can finish within the cohort. Published sessions do not confirm an available seat.

How retesting works

NREMT allows six attempts total: your first test plus five retests. Approved remedial education is required after three failures. Wait at least 15 days between attempts and pay $104 each time. Initial-course eligibility lasts two years; remedial education does not extend it. [5] [6]

What the Corpus tuition includes

Textbook, CPR, school background/drug screening, clinical insurance and two shirts. Pants, boots and the national exam are additional. [1]
